MBA Admissions

Application requirements for admission into the Charlotte MBA programs include:

  • Completed online application
    • Statement of purpose (essay) describing the applicant’s experience and objectives in undertaking graduate studies in our Charlotte MBA
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • Unofficial transcript(s) of all academic work attempted beyond high school. An official final transcript must be submitted within the first semester of attendance if an applicant is offered admission.

    • Resume or a description of significant work experience

Although work experience is not a requirement for admission to the program, applicants are encouraged to acquire some full-time professional experience before applying to the program. The average Charlotte MBA student has 6-7 years of full-time professional/military work experience upon applying for admission. Three or more years of work experience is preferred.

GMAT/GRE Waiver

Prospective Charlotte MBA students who meet certain requirements may request a GMAT/GRE waiver. Please note that no GMAT/GRE waiver is automatic, and an approved waiver application does not guarantee later acceptance into the program.

GMAT/GRE Waiver Requirements

To be eligible for a GMAT/GRE waiver, candidates must fully satisfy the requirements of one of the following options:

  • Option A: Standard Waiver – Candidates must possess at least 3 years of professional or military experience with increasing levels of responsibility (significant leadership experience is a plus), and a cumulative undergraduate or graduate (must have at least 9 hours of earned graduate credit) GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution/program.
  • Option B: Quantitative Coursework Waiver – Candidates must possess at least 3 years of professional or military experience with increasing levels of responsibility (significant leadership experience is a plus), and be able to demonstrate preparedness in quantitatively-oriented coursework (must have at least a 3.25 GPA in five of the following six courses:  Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Managerial Accounting, Financial Accounting, Statistics and Calculus).
  • Option C: Exemplary Professional or Military Experience Waiver – Candidates must possess at least 10 years of professional or military experience with increasing levels of responsibility. The candidate’s experiences should demonstrate leadership, problem solving ability and analytical thinking.
  • Option D: Doctoral Degree Waiver – Candidates who possess a doctoral degree (e.g: J.D., M.D., Ph.D.) with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA from an accredited institution will automatically have their GMAT/GRE requirement waived by Graduate Admissions upon receipt of the candidate’s official/unofficial transcript in their graduate application to our MBA program. No GMAT/GRE Waiver request form required.

Candidates who earned their degree from a foreign institution may be asked to obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES provider to verify they meet the GPA requirement.

Applying for a GMAT/GRE Waiver

To apply for the GMAT/GRE waiver, candidates will need to complete a two-part process:

  1. Complete the GMAT/GRE Waiver form
  2. You will receive an email with instructions on how to submit your updated resume and all unofficial transcripts to our waiver review portal.

If you are unable to secure the GMAT/GRE waiver, you will be required to submit official GMAT/GRE test scores in your MBA application. If you have any questions about the waiver process, please contact the Belk College Graduate Programs Office.

The GMAT/GRE Waiver request is only available to candidates who have not had their test scores reported to UNC Charlotte.
