When did you join the Belk College of Business?

I joined the University and the Belk College of Business in August 2013.

What was most rewarding about your leadership role in the Belk College of Business?
While in this role, it was very clear to me that I worked with an incredibly talented and passionate group of people.
Describe your major area of expertise as a faculty member
From a research perspective, my research interest falls broadly in the domain of understanding the psychology of consumers. I am particularly interested in how consumers may be influenced and often make decisions without their conscious knowledge or awareness. While traditional views of consumer behavior assume that consumers are largely deliberative and conscious, thinking machines, embedded in my research is the assertion that much of our decision making as consumers occurs outside of our conscious awareness.
What have been some of your greatest faculty moments so far in your career?

There is not a single moment but rather a collection of many. Even the best-designed curriculum will have limited effectiveness if a teacher is not truly passionate about teaching. I believe connections with students tend to be stronger when students recognize that the faculty member standing in front of them is not only interested in, for example, statistics or psychology or marketing research, but is also interested in them as individuals. Beyond the classroom, I have had the honor of serving in formal and informal mentoring roles for many students. I consider it a tremendous privilege to teach our students and continue to remain in contact with many long after graduation.
