What degree did you pursue and why?

When I first came here from Chile, I intended to continue my studies in the medical field, however, once I picked up a class in the Economics department, I knew that’s where I needed to be. I instantly had a passion for the study and have continued to have that same drive as I’ve worked towards my master's degrees. I am an alumna of the MBA program, as well as in the M.S. in Economics.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business over others?

I chose the Belk College of Business because I really appreciated the effort the professors put into the quality of their courses. Coming from another country, I was hesitant in certain areas of my studies, but all of my educators have tirelessly worked with me and made my learning experience the same as everyone else.

What activities are you involved in when you're not working?

I enjoy being with my friends and family. Spending time together and going to the movies are the things we enjoy the most. It’s a great way to remind myself how to destress from day-to-day life.

What has been the best part of your academic experience?

I’ve been on two study abroad trips with the economics department and they have definitely been the best part of my academic experience so far. As an undergraduate student I went to Morocco and Portugal and last semester, I went as a T.A. to Colombia and Panama. Both were life-changing experiences for me; you get to see and talk with people that live in completely different social and economic environments. They are a great learning experience and I would recommend them to everyone that is thinking about going.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone considering a master’s program?

Applying to the master’s program for the Belk College of Business was a life-changing moment for me. I have been able to expand on my opportunities from undergraduate far beyond what I even thought was possible. I know in the future my possibilities will only continue to grow. Anyone looking to apply would be making an incredible and rewarding decision.

How valuable do you feel this degree will be to your career?

In the field of economics, there is such a diversity of career paths I can take. While I have a short-term plan, I know that things change in the future and I may choose the switch the route I’ve taken. In this field; I feel like my degree will allow for such flexibility and thereby emanate my success.
